After seven years of teaching, I still strive to conquer the challenge of individualizing education to help each student achieve and master skills necessary for their academic and life success. Through my Undergraduate coursework focused on English and Theater and my Graduate coursework, I have developed resources that are various and can be matched to the level of the student's skill to facilitate a scaffolded learning system that builds and progresses the student in an appropriate pace and style that fits their needs.
Tutoring approaches will center around a student's needs and strengths as well as learning style. I have many manipulatives and various strategy books to assist me in determining which activities are best. As a public school ELA teacher, I also have access to numerous literature resources, SAT and MCAS Practice materials, as well as two different Grammar programs: Daily Grammar Practice and Giggly Grammar. All of my resources and materials are Common Core Aligned and meet and exceed state standards. Both conventional face to face tutoring as well as tutoring via technology are possible for me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After graduating from Hofstra University in 2007 with a Bachelors in English, I began teaching 9th grade English at New Bedford High School. From 2007-2008, I earned a Post Baccalaureate Certificate from Bridgewater State University in English Secondary Education which also earned me my state Initial teaching license. After three years at NBHS, I began teaching 9th and 10th English at a vocational high school. During this time, I received various professional developments that have improved my knowledge and pedagogy in my subject.
I graduated from Hofstra University in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre as well as English. After graduating, I completed a Post Baccalaureate Certification program at Bridgewater State University in English Secondary Education which included a focus on grammar. After a couple years of teaching, I attended a grammar training using Daily Grammar Practice and another using Giggly Grammar which have given me the tools to engage students with grammar practice in ways that are clear and understandable.
I graduated from Hofstra University in 2007 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre as well as English. For four years, I taught Theatre I and II at New Bedford High School (NBHS) in MA as well as developed the curriculum and taught in the Theater Summer Program at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. I have now been the Advisor, Director, and Producer of the Performing Arts Club at my current employer, a Regional Technical High School, for three years and filled the same roles at this HS for four years, directing and producing a total of 14 shows.
