I have been working in education for nearly a decade and with international students for three years. I have had a deep love of literature, film, and art all my life. Teaching allows me to share that enlightening excitement with new generations. I focus on drawing out the most critical thoughts a student has and organizing them into airtight responses and expressive arguments. I have experience with myriad reading and writing styles, and I have taught across the grades from Pre-K to Grade 12.
I have read many of the classics, as well as the modern-day curriculum. I possess many of history's great books, and I'm always searching for more. I have been in the classroom as well as teaching online for the last five years, specializing in reading, writing, English culture, and essay composition. I have considerable ESL experience, guiding the most determined students to express themselves accurately and clearly in English. One of my students described me as a "dynamic teacher, patient and earnest in his unique methods." My style of teaching is the Responsive Classroom method, developed by the Northeast Foundation for Children. I teach students how to approach problem-solving, guiding them to solutions through critical thinking and self-discovery. This approach develops independent thinking and provides students with a foundation of education that prepares them for everything.
I believe that a teacher not only teaches but also engages with their own pedagogy by producing original work. I have created numerous short stories, published and performed poetry, and one day hope to sell a screenplay or two. My absolute favorite teacher and writer is Robert Frost. From his poem Two Tramps in Mud Time, he says, "...My object in living is to unite my avocation and my vocation as two eyes make one in sight."
