I have been playing trumpet since I have been 8 years old. I first started playing in School and Church musical groups; taking lesson with professional trumpet players from the Detroit Wayne Music Studios. I have studied with trumpet masters such as Claude Gordon, Bill Knevit; Gordon Stump, and Jerry Franks. I have learned that mastering trumpet is not just learning the rudimentary technical fundamentals. It is more that a good trumpet teacher needs to provide that encourages the student to appreciate the horn and be motivated, playing to their best abilities.
I have over 40 years playing as a Principle and Lead trumpeter in major metropolitan areas such as Detroit, Dallas and Boston. Currently, I am Principle Trumpet with the Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra; Lead Trumpet with the Tinkertown Big Band; free lance trumpeter for Local 281 A.F. of M and Bugler for Buglers Across America,
My teaching dynamics brings tangible and measurable results for the student who wants to learn. It includes the study of Trumpet Reflexes; learning rhythms; mastering "sight reading". Last, but certainly not least, will be the study of building a fun and exciting repertoire of both classic and contemporary songs.
My teaching philosophy and style is not intimidating. I look to each student to asses their competencies and willingness to learn. Through leadership and motivation I incorporate well proven teaching dynamics that will allow students to achieve results and that will encourage them to play and enjoy the trumpet for years to come.
