I hold an Associate of Arts degree in English, Communication, and Professional Writing, with academic training in writing, rhetoric, critical reading, research, and effective communication. This foundation supports my work teaching writing structure, grammar, reading comprehension, and academic communication across grade levels.
I have several years of experience providing one-on-one tutoring and academic coaching in reading, writing, English language arts, and academic skills. I am the founder of Sharpened Voices, an independent tutoring practice focused on clear, structured, and confidence-building instruction that helps students develop durable, transferable skills rather than short-term fixes.
I have also worked at the college level as a Peer Writing Tutor and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader, supporting students with composition, research writing, revision strategies, organization, grammar, and study skills. In these roles, I worked with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students, adult learners, English language learners, and students with learning differences.
My teaching approach emphasizes explicit instruction, scaffolded skill-building, and metacognitive strategies so students understand both what to do and why they are doing it. I guide students through the learning process rather than completing work for them.
I have worked with students from upper elementary through college and adult learners in one-on-one, small-group, and academic support settings. My goal is to help students develop clarity, confidence, and independence in their academic voice.
