My name is Cassie, and I am a sophomore undergraduate student double majoring in Biology and Spanish at UMASS Lowell! I am pursuing a sciences career, with particular interest in cellular biology, molecular biology, and microbiology. Currently, I am working in Dr. Guo's Enzymology Lab at UMASS Lowell, and plan to continue biological research over my undergraduate career.

Throughout high school, I served as a mentor and tutor for numerous students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I virtually tutored middle school clarinet students both one-on-one and in groups to help them improve their musical abilities. I prepared lesson plans personalized around their goals and interests; for example, I transcribed music from Undertale and Star Wars with alterations to help my students improve their range, dynamics use, and phrasing. Additionally, I ran a pen pal project during the pandemic to provide reading, writing, and interpersonal skill support for 4th grade students. I tutored both high school and 4th grade pen pals on writing etiquette and coordinated the exchange with teachers from both schools involved in the project.

Furthermore, I have and continue to serve as a mentor in the soccer refereeing community. Over the past 4 years, I have mentored younger referees on: the Laws of the Game; communicating with coaches, parents, and teams; and managing pre- and post-game responsibilities. Beyond these experiences, I also help tutor my 4 younger siblings, ranging from elementary to high school levels. With my experience taking AP Spanish (5), AP Literature (5), AP Language and Composition (5), AP Seminar, and AP Biology (5), I have been able to support my siblings with their English, presentation/oral speaking, Spanish, and biology coursework. Moreover, my college-level experience with biology (intro, cellular, experimental methods), chemistry (general I & II, organic I), statistics (intro), psychology (intro, abnormal), public speaking, & English (short stories) has helped me in my tutoring efforts as well.

Clarinet

I am an experienced clarinetist with 8 years of experience playing the instrument. I have performed in competitive ensemble (MICCA), wind ensemble, marching band, concert band (high school and collegiate level), symphonic orchestra, and jazz band. I have mentored clarinet students at the middle school level and am knowledgeable on practice technique, scales, articulation, phrasing, and other aspects of playing clarinet. I love the instrument and have classic works (Baermann, Rose Etudes, etc), introductory texts (Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements For Band, etc), intermediate texts (Rubank Intermediate Method, Concert & Contest Collection, etc), and pop culture/media music (John Williams, Hal Leonard, etc) available to work with, and would be more than happy to play clarinet with the student as they learn.

She was very patient with my grandson

She helped him with notes, sounds and much more on his first lesson. She was in a hurry or impatient with his lack of musical knowledge. But took her time with him

Cleothis, 3 lessons with Cassandra

Extremely patient, kind and knowledgeable beyond her years!

So far I have only worked with Cassandra once, but she was so helpful and knowledgeable that I have scheduled a second appointment! She seamlessly guided me through how to do my very first annotated bibliography. Something I really liked was I didn't feel embarrassed or uncomfortable at all. There was zero judgment at how little I knew. She knows her stuff and is very efficient with the time in the sessions. I honestly can't recommend her enough!!!
