University of MA/Amherst (Education Sociology)
As a lifelong teacher, tutor & trainer, I'm passionate about helping students of all ages (we're never too old to stop learning!) achieve their goals. Instilling confidence is critical in learning, and through countless hours working 1:1 with students, I've come to learn teaching "people" is as important as teaching "subjects".
Parents looking for a tutor for their children will find I'm a certified teacher, well-educated and very experienced. I have a strong background in classical studies, having graduated from the prestigious Girls' Latin School (Boston). At an early age, I reaped the benefits of outstanding preparation, study habits and knowledge. I find this background extremely helpful when I tutor students who need to prepare for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, and HSPT. Beyond GLS, I graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a double major (BS in Education/Sociology), from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
After teaching elementary school children in the classroom for 5 years, I spent the next 10 working 1:1 with some of the bravest students ever... youngsters at the Ronald McDonald House & Children's Hospital. Through these touching experiences, I truly saw the merits of setting individualized (yet realistic) goals. In the 10 years since my rewarding time at Children's, I've found working with middle school & high school students on standardized test prep, and overall subjects (math, grammar, writing especially) to be equally rewarding.
A word to my future students: your success is my success! While working with me, you'll find a non-judgmental, caring, compassionate advocate & coach who will work tirelessly to help you achieve your goals. I'll work to get the most out of your potential, and help you learn in the ways best suited for your style & temperament. Together, I promise you, learning can become rewarding no matter how stressful it may have been at times in the past!
Carole is very supportive and attentive to my strengths and weaknesses in SAT and ACT test-taking. She gives me various worksheets and quizzes to tackle my shortcomings in vocabulary and grammar and provides me plenty of test materials to make sure I am doing better overall. She gives me tips for solving SAT and ACT problems and also shares her valuable test-taking techniques. I am grateful that Carole is my tutor and that my learning experience with her has been great so far. I would definitely recommend her for anyone in need of a great SAT and ACT tutor!
It has been a great experience for me as well, Claire!
You are a very intelligent and conscientious student.

She's really focused on her first ISEE!
Carole is very personable and connected well with my 11-year-old son. She communicated the importance of the ISEE and studying regularly up until the test date. I appreciate her approach and think her support will have a positive impact on my son's test performance.

Carole has been working with my daughter on SAT prep for a couple of weeks now. She is a wealth of knowledge in this area and has shared many helpful tips and tricks. She is very patient and breaks things down in a way that is comprehensible. I feel confident that my daughter will excel on test day.
I highly recommend Carole!
Thanks so much for taking the time to validate my "mission", Cari-Ann.
Your daughter is a pleasure to work with!
Carole is a very kind, patient, & knowledgeable tutor. She worked with me on 7/15/16- set up for my business chart of accounts in Quickbooks Simple Start. She also, took the time to explain various concepts & lingo of accounting, that she felt would be both necessary & helpful to my understanding the numbers. Prior to working with Carole, I had hired an expensive Quickbooks Pro-that neglected to TEACH & explain the things that Carole took the time to do working with the "pro" was a huge waste of my time & money.
I am so thankful that, I found Carole. I feel confident & hopeful that, I will be able to keep good financial records now!
So, if you need a knowledgeable & smart tutor- contact Carole! Thanks Again for all your help.
It was my pleasure to educate a businesswoman who wants to be well-versed in the accounting concepts behind the numbers. Savvy business owners need the knowledge.
Kudos to you for recognizing this fact. I'm sure you will do well in the future!
Carole taught me about shortcuts that I didn't know anything about as well as helping me understand certain transaction in my system with cash on hand, discrepancies, owners draw. payroll and more. She was a pleasure to work with, thank you Carole.
I appreciate the opportunity to work with QB users in enhancing understanding, it was equally my pleasure to work with your colleague. She had a keen attention to detail and learned quickly! Good luck, in the future.
Carole was EXCELLENT and was very up-front and honest and even suggested my son didn't need her on a regular basis, but that we would stay connected and she will come back when we think he needs it. We plan to work with Carole to prepare our son for taking private school entrance exams as well. The best part was that our son really liked her as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jack (and you!)
He's a terrific student who will do well.
I look forward to working with him (if needed) on his pre-algebra and definitely prepping him for private school entrance exams.
Carole has worked with our son for the last month in getting him ready for the HSPT. He is much more confident than he was a month ago. Carole also has been very accomodating to our schedule. I highly recommend her for your child.
I really enjoyed working with Brady.
He is a polite young man who presents well.
Good luck with all his future goals!

She is warm, personable and easy to engage. No time was wasted and she made the tutoring experience enjoyable. She is clearly well versed in interacting with teens and connected immediately with both my daughters. We're thrilled with our first session and look forward to many more!

Carole focused on the area that my daughter needed the most help with. She immediately understood and saw the type of student my daughter is, and provided techniques that would work for her. Her techniques are ones that we would have never known. Carole has always been accommodating to any schedule changes we have needed to make. I know we will be using her as an SAT tutor for our younger daughter, when that time comes.

Also, my son really likes working with her, which is a big plus. I feel my son is very well prepared for his upcoming exam. What I particularly like is that Carole has given him a sense of confidence that he did not possess at the start of the process. Thank you, Carole!

3/13/2015: We did it!!! We got the acceptance letter!! Thanks to the AMAZING job Carole did with tutoring our son for the SSAT. His scores showed significant increase in ALL AREAS and that's all because of Carole. Thanks so much, Mona! I enjoyed working with you.
I wish you much future success!
I can not speak highly enough of Carole. She is caring, patient and extremely flexible. She is able to accommodate my daughter's hectic schedule. With the snow we have had this winter Carole has been accommodating with meeting times and days. Carole comes prepared and keeps my daughter focused on SAT preparation material. She gives her the right amount of material to do outside of tutoring. Her way is nurturing and supportive always making my daughter feel comfortable and confident. I highly recommend Carole.

My son just completed his first SAT prep lesson with Carole. As a parent, I worried about finding the right person to "guide" my son through the SAT study process. I was thrilled when he told me how much he learned and how comfortable he felt with Carole as his teacher. When I asked Brendan to describe his new tutor in 3 words, he said "Patient, approachable and understanding." We definitely made the correct choice!
Thanks so much for this feedback applauding my tutoring style. It has been my pleasure to work with your son. He is truly motivated, which makes my mission of developing confident students easier. I look forward to continuing my SAT prep tutoring until his exam!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
