While at Harvard, I worked as an international tutor to mentor students based in China that were learning English as a Second Language. I developed an individualized curriculum to match the interests and weaknesses of each student I worked with and saw significant progress over the course of my tutoring sessions. In addition, I volunteered in local Boston schools to teach lessons to elementary school students about the United States government, designing engaging and interactive activities to make the lessons memorable.
My teaching style is highly individualized, combining students' interests with target areas for growth. For example, I worked with a student who loved to draw, and incorporated artistic activities into our lessons. We would read a story (she was working on ESL), and then she would draw what she imagined the scene or characters to look like. I look forward to working with you. :)
