Hello! My name is Sandra. I recently graduated from Harvard University, where I studied biomedical engineering, and am now an incoming medical student at Baylor College of Medicine.
I began tutoring in early high school, when I helped younger students with competitive math in Texas (TMSCA, UIL, MathCounts). I also developed the competitive academics club and team at my high school in hopes that we could win district championships as a team. At Harvard University, I was a teaching fellow and tutor for the introductory quantitative physiology course for 2.5 years, as well as the introductory genetics course.
I have taken the following standardized tests: TAKS, STAAR, PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT Math II, and MCAT. I was a national Merit semi-finalist; achieved a perfect score on my ACT, SAT Math, and Math II; and was in the 94-th percentile for the MCAT. For all students, I first aim to understand how they learn as well as their current level of preparation and access to resources before structuring a study schedule that incorporates a form of accountability, whether that be through review sessions with myself or through homework and practice tests.
Having participated in competitive math and science since elementary school, I have always been passionate about and actively involved in fostering interests in math and science. While academic competitions helped me develop valuable skills in problem solving and quick learning, I also understand how arduous it can be to study and learn difficult material. With this understanding, I use my own experience to influence how I approach teaching and tailor my lessons to each students' learning styles. Additionally, I also do my best to provide students with examples of how content can be practically applied or referenced in reality to encourage them to find learning interesting.
Watching students grow and master material they were originally anxious about is my ultimate goal when teaching. Please reach out at any time, and I look forward to our lessons together.
