Hi, my name is Alvin. I am a junior at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a 3.5 GPA. I have previously volunteered as a tutor for 200+ hours and earned two Presidential Volunteer Service Awards from it. I graduated as a salutatorian of my high school with a 4.0 unweighted and ~4.7 weighted GPA. I continued to tutor in a lot of high school STEM subjects but I am most comfortable with tutoring math. I usually teach high school and middle school students. I am very patient; I don't mind...
I am very patient; I don't mind going over a topic multiple times before it clicks. I also don't mind repeating myself and giving multiple analogies to help explain something. Feel free to ask a lot of questions (in fact, it's encouraged)!
My method to teaching is to show how I would solve a related problem and then have you try to explain it back to me (similar to the Feynman technique). I also love visualizations and will show neat tricks with Desmos to help ideas stick! I try to avoid doing a bunch of math calculations because 1) it can get tedious and 2) it's your responsibility to practice what you learn. I find it more productive for me to explain something very thoroughly and then doing one or two guided practices where you try to explain what you learn. If you know something well enough to explain it, you will have a good understanding of the material :).
