Bio

Helping children learn to read is my passion. I have nine years teaching experience in private and public schools and hold a national certification in Orton-Gillingham grades K-3. The Orton-Gillingham approach helps take the mystery out of reading and spelling by focusing on why words are spelled the way they are.

Helping children learn to read is my passion. I have nine years teaching experience in private and public schools and hold a national certification in Orton-Gillingham grades K-3. The Orton-Gillingham approach helps take the mystery out of reading and spelling by focusing on why words are spelled the way they are.

I have an MEd from the University of Massachusetts Boston and an English degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

I continue my education through professional development, gathering the latest research and strategies to implement with my students. I provide structured, systematic, multi-sensory lessons that are fun and engaging. I am also patient and understanding. I have taught diverse groups of students with Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities. I work closely with each student, to help them understand key concepts, and provided the individualized support and praise they require. By using the Orton-Gillingham approach, I have empowered struggling readers to reach their full potential.

Dyslexia

I teach Reading using the Orton–Gillingham approach. Orton-Gillingham is a structured literacy approach. It introduces the idea of breaking reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these skills over time.
Special Needs

Special Needs

During my time as a Special Education Teacher, I have taught diverse groups of students with Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and non compliant behavior. I work closely with each student, and provide the individualized support and praise they require. I also make sure to stay connected with family members and any specialists involved, to encourage the success of each student, both in and outside of the classroom.

Great fit for my son

We had a great first lesson at the library with my son. Rebecca took the time to get a thorough assessment and listen to my concerns. She was very helpful thinking about his learning in general and has some great advice for when the school year starts.

Great fit for my son

We had a great first lesson at the library with my son. Rebecca took the time to get a thorough assessment and listen to my concerns. She was very helpful thinking about his learning in general and has some great advice for when the school year starts. As a follow-up, we had great summer session with Ms. Rebecca. She helped me get some resources to continue with my son at home and helped coach me through some goals and expectations to help for school and how to seek out school support.
