Hi! I’m Sydney — a PhD student in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at UNC Chapel Hill with a strong background in biology, bioinformatics, and science communication. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Health: Science, Society, and Policy from Brandeis University, where I graduated magna cum laude, and I recently earned a Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics through the Harvard Extension School.

I’ve taught and mentored students at many levels — from leading college biology review sessions to introducing elementary schoolers to Python programming. At Brandeis, I served as a Teaching Assistant for “Cells and Organisms,” an introductory biology course, where I helped students navigate complex topics like cell biology, genetics, and physiology. I also designed engaging lessons for younger students learning to code, and I’ve mentored peers in lab settings and through mental health support organizations.

My tutoring style is friendly, flexible, and grounded in active learning. I tailor each session to meet students where they are, helping them build confidence while reinforcing key concepts. Whether you’re looking for help with high school science, college-level biology, or want to strengthen your data analysis or coding skills, I’d love to support your learning journey.

Biology

Biology

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brandeis University, where I graduated magna cum laude and served as a Teaching Assistant for an introductory biology course. My academic training spans molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and cell biology, and I’ve conducted biomedical research at Harvard's Wyss Institute for over two years. My tutoring style emphasizes conceptual clarity, active learning, and making complex topics accessible through real-world examples. Whether a student is preparing for exams or aiming to deepen their understanding of biological systems, I tailor each session to their unique goals and learning style.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology with extensive coursework in general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, and analytical methods. In college, I served as a peer tutor and teaching assistant, supporting students in introductory biology courses by developing review materials and leading group discussions. I currently work as a research assistant at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University, where I apply principles of chemistry and molecular biology in translational diagnostics research. My experience ranges from buffer preparation and protein chemistry to experimental design and data interpretation, allowing me to support students not only with textbook material but also with practical, real-world applications.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

I have extensive experience with Python, C, and R, particularly for data analysis, automation, and scientific computing. I led all computational work for a peer-reviewed publication entitled "Toward Identification of Markers for Brain-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Cerebrospinal Fluid: A Large-Scale, Unbiased Analysis Using Proximity Extension Assays." For this project, I developed custom pipelines to clean, analyze, and visualize high-dimensional proteomics data, and the full analysis code is publicly available on GitHub. My programming expertise includes writing reproducible scripts, working with APIs and web scraping, automating workflows in Excel, and structuring cloud-based data for analysis. I’m experienced at helping others understand the logic behind code—even those with no coding background—and enjoy translating complex technical ideas into practical, easy-to-understand solutions.
Geometry

Geometry

I have a strong foundation in Geometry through both academic coursework and tutoring experience. My studies in biology and biostatistics demanded a solid grasp of geometric reasoning, spatial analysis, and logic-based problem solving, which I’ve consistently applied in both research and teaching contexts. I’ve tutored students in Geometry concepts such as proofs, transformations, coordinate geometry, and properties of shapes, helping them develop confidence through structured, example-driven lessons. My teaching style emphasizes clarity, step-by-step reasoning, and connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications, which is especially important for students transitioning from Pre-Algebra to more advanced topics.
