Hello! My name is Hannah, and I graduated from Dartmouth College with high honors and a BA in Environmental Studies and Government. I currently work as a social and political researcher in Washington DC, where I use the research and writing skills I pass on to my students. I have five years of tutoring experience in my listed subjects. I've worked with college and high school students in person, online via Zoom, in small groups, and one-on-one. In addition to my tutoring experience, I bring extensive reading, writing, and researching skills to prepare students well for tests, papers, and homework.

My approach to tutoring centers building students' confidence and familiarity with the topics and necessary skills to achieve in classroom engagement and high test and homework scores. I believe a core tutoring component is mentorship and showing the joy and fulfillment of learning. I work with students to review class content, create study guides, and correct and explain their misunderstandings in tests and homework. I particularly enjoy using creative slideshows and incorporating videos to engage students.

I make tutoring fun and engaging by connecting classroom material to real-world examples, research, and public conversations around issues. This additional level of engagement assists students in impressing teachers and improving recall for tests. My tutoring has received high praise from professors and assisted students in substantially improving their test scores and class engagement. I encourage students to share content from their classes, including their assignments, readings, and teacher handouts prior to sessions, so I can ensure tutoring sessions are effective and relevant.

American History

American History

I began tutoring AP US history six years ago following my achievement of a 5 on the APUSH exam. The majority of my current students are in AP US history, so I am very up to date on the APUSH class content and exam. My American history research experience includes exploring the interactions of neoliberalism and executive power in continuing environmental policies despite changing administrations' attitudes towards the environment, while the same interactions hinder climate change progress. I've also researched political extremism throughout 400 years of American history up to the modern day. My students and I work on reviewing class content, conducting research, writing papers, and preparing for the APUSH exam.
Ecology

Ecology

I received a BA in environmental studies and government with high honors. In addition to two years of experience tutoring college students in environmental science, my academics, extracurriculars, and internships reflect my expertise in and passion for environmental studies. I've conducted environmental science research under a Dartmouth professor and my own, unique research for my high-honors environmental studies thesis. For some examples of my academics, my courses explored advanced political ecology, EU energy policy, energy and the environment in the Middle East, and the relationship between identities and the environment. My internships all examined the environment or environmental policy, including lab data analysis, state and federal environmental regulation, qualitative content analysis coding for environmental events and environmental ideologies, environmental justice, climate change, and corporate sustainability. My extracurriculars centered environmental policy and socio-ecological justice, ranging from research to improving energy efficiency with home repairs to writing newspaper articles on environmental politics and policies. I can assist you in assignments and class content including, but not limited to: interpreting environmental data; creating sustainability plans; graphing and explaining ecosystem dynamics and species' relationships; environmental economics; ecological economics; energy policy; sustainability; resource geopolitics; environmental and energy justice; political ecology; and climate change.
European History

European History

Most of my current students are in AP histories, so I am very up to date on the AP's course and exam. In addition to AP European History tutoring experience, I've studied the influence of extremism, labor, the environment, and religion on Europe's development.
Geography

Geography

As a high honors Ivy League grad with majors in environmental studies and government, I've taken several advanced geography courses. These courses include advanced topics in political ecology, justice, and the interactions between identities, physical space, and the environment. I've conducted research into: how the Middle East's resources and resource constraints shapes its economy, culture, history, and politics; how landscapes, environmental change, and advancements in environmental science in North America and Europe cause political and ideological changes; how land, resources, and the environment affect National identity and ideological developments; and how Latin America's migration patterns, resources, coast lines, and landscapes shaped their contemporary and historical economies, commodity trades, international relationships, domestic policies, and governments. I tutor both high school students in AP human geography and college students in geography topics like the relationship between space and nature and political, economic, and social developments. I've conducted research into ideological geography, which describes how nature and ideologies influence one another. With my high school students, we work together to prepare for the AP human geography exam and work on class assignments. With college students, we explore advanced geography topics, understanding and critiquing geography research, writing research papers and literature reviews, and finding the student's niche in the field of study.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

I graduated from Dartmouth college with a major in government with a concentration in comparative politics. I've worked in state government and political and advocacy campaigns, including Senate, Gubernatorial, and presidential elections. My research has appeared in Politico and I've conducted research and written social media content for politicians and political campaigns. My academic and work-related research built skills to assist you in approaching government and political research and writing, interpreting government and politics, engaging with elected officials and bureaucrats, and exploring what interests you in government and politics. I work with college and high school students to develop research projects, study for exams (including AP govt), and find ways to become involved in government and politics.
Political Science

Political Science

I graduated from Dartmouth college with a major in government with a concentration in comparative politics. I've worked in state government and political and advocacy campaigns, including Senate, Gubernatorial, and presidential elections. My research has appeared in Politico and I've conducted research and written social media content for politicians and political campaigns. My academic and work-related research built skills to assist you in approaching government and political research and writing, interpreting government and politics, engaging with elected officials and bureaucrats, and exploring what interests you in government and politics. I work with high school students to prepare for AP govt and with college students in designing political science research methodologies, understanding political science research and its use of literature and data, and learning the field's key thinkers, history, and concepts.
Reading

Reading

My love of reading motivates my reading tutoring. I work with students to find their intrinsic motivation to improve reading skills by identifying which written works excite them, such as short stories, research in a topic of interest, poetry, and written works' affects on culture, politics, and history. I also work with my students on annotating texts to improve comprehension, learning common allusions in literature, and recognizing tone, literary devices, and arguments. I encourage students to write short reflections on their reading and we work together to find reading appropriate for their age and education level.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

Dartmouth College awarded me high honors based on my 109-page thesis, which blended a literature review, qualitative case studies, and quantitative data analysis. I've tutored college students and graduate students in structuring their theses, designing their methodologies, identifying sources, and refining their writing and methodology. I also currently work as a policy and societal issues researcher and have several years of experience as a research assistant.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I work with high school and college students in improving their language in academic assignments, research, and other projects. I work with non-native English speakers who are at a minimum conversational-level to explain, improve, and expand vocabulary, grammatical structures, and sentence complexity paired with conciseness.
World History

World History

I began tutoring for AP World history seven years ago following my achievement of a 5 on the AP exam. One of my majors, government, explored comparative politics and history within regions, such as Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe. I've studied the global history of markets and economics, environmental policies, and extremism.
Writing

Writing

I have extensive writing and research experience, including researching and creating content that has appeared in Politico, politicians' social media and press releases, and environmental organizations. My writing experience ranges from published, short opinion articles to a 107-page high-honors thesis. I've written pieces that have appeared in national, local, and academic news outlets (although I was a "ghost writer" for the national articles and many local/state outlets, and thus cannot share examples due to nondisclosure agreements). I've worked on newsletters for nonprofits and other organizations. I work with students in creating outlines, improving arguments and writing skills, editing, learning citation formats, and identifying and understanding sources. I also work with non-native English speakers with a conversational ability or better to improve their writing by explaining and practicing the appropriate styles for certain writing needs (such as formal, informal, or academic contexts), grammar, sentences structure, improving conciseness, and sentence complexity in an accessible and appropriately paced manner.

Phenomenal history tutor

Hannah is an absolute gem, and we feel so lucky to have found her. My daughter has loved working with Hannah because she is patient, supportive and extremely knowledgable. She's gone above and beyond by assisting with research and providing nuanced perspectives on complex historical events. We look forward to continuing to work with Hannah and can't recommend her highly enough!

amazing teacher

She really helped me finalize my essay and fixed all the errors I made. She was also very patient with me as I am only a freshman in college and she made sure to help me understand the topic well.

Excellent tutor

Hannah has been an excellent tutor for my son. She helped my son prepare for the APUSH one month before the exam. My son had been studying on his own beforehand but had barely even written a single LEQ, DBQ, or FRQ. Hannah worked with my son once a week, assigning multiple choice questions and essays and reviewing them with him. As a result of his hard work and her guidance and intensive tutoring, my son scored a 5!

Thorough and thoughtful

My son had an APUSH review session with Hannah and she was terrific. She is very knowledgeable and has well-planned sessions and does an in depth assessment of what needs to be done to master the AP.

Awesome Tutor!

Hannah is an outstanding tutor who truly knows how to break down complex environmental science concepts in a way that makes them engaging and easy to understand. I had a fantastic session with her, where we worked through real AP Environmental Science (APES) free-response questions, particularly focusing on the "Analyze an Environmental Problem and Propose a Solution" question type. We tackled topics like methane emissions, fracking, the tragedy of the commons, and environmental regulations—subjects that can sometimes feel overwhelming. But Hannah’s ability to explain them clearly and connect them to real-world examples made all the difference. She didn’t just provide answers; she guided me in thinking critically about how to structure my responses for maximum clarity and impact. Her feedback was incredibly helpful in improving both my understanding of the material and my approach to answering AP-style questions effectively. What really stood out about Hannah is her patience, depth of knowledge, and passion for teaching. She creates a comfortable learning environment where it’s easy to ask questions, and she adapts to your specific needs—whether you need help with content review, test strategies, or refining your writing.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor.

Hannah was extremely knowledgeable about AP Human Geography. She came well prepared to our lesson and had an array of materials to help with our review. Additionally she went above and beyond by providing me feedback on my writing assignment prior to our lesson. This was very helpful as it allowed us to do the in depth editing in person. I would highly recommend her!

Thoughtful, engaging, and understanding tutor

Hannah did a great job walking me through the steps necessary to approach my essay. I was overwhelmed, but she was able to break it down in a way that felt manageable. She helped me brainstorm ideas and make an outline. She also helped me find sources for my research. Hannah was very kind and patient and seemed to understand well how to work with me, a difficult task sometimes due to my ADHD and autism. I look forward to working with her in the future, and feel very prepared to finish this essay!
