About Paul

To Students and Parents:

Although I'd be delighted to work with students who are high school age or older, I particularly enjoy working with adults to help them refine and polish their writing skills, prepare for presentations, and read with deeper understanding and comprehension.

To my work with students I bring years of experience as a high school English teacher, a published writer, and a magazine editor. My tutoring approach is straightforward, practical, and pragmatic: good writing isn't a mystery or a gift from the gods that other students were given but they were denied. It's the result of having a plan and finding their 'voice,' and I have a wide variety of strategies that will help assure that students make progress quickly.

I have a full-time job, but I'm available in the evening and on weekends. I'll meet students wherever it is convenient -- in their home, at a town/college library, at a place of business, or ay the local coffee shop. Together, we'll get your paper written, your speech prepared, your thesis organized, and your presentation rehearsed. Please check the nice things that folks have said about me. I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

Frequently as a freelance writer I have been asked to prepare 'talking points' for corporate CEOs and managers to help them prepare for meetings, conferences, and symposia. Similarly, I have had many opportunities to draft both informal remarks and formal speeches. For several years, I created the entire script for the Creative Excellence Awards. a black-tie event in Washington, D.C. at which the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) announced the winners of the year's best employee recruitment advertising campaigns.

Writing

I'd be delighted to work with students (high school age or older) and adults to help them deepen and broaden their understanding of literature and to help them improve their academic, expository, and business writing skills. To my work with students I bring years of experience as a high school English teacher, a published writer, and a magazine editor.

Excellent, Reliable tutor — Paul is a fantastic tutor that really assisted my son in his writing skills. Paul reviewed my son's essays for college. I can't say enough good things about Paul. He was extremely timely, and helped us out even with a last minute notice. I was so pleased to see how encouraging and helpful that Paul's comments were. He not only has years of teaching and writing experience, but he is patient, w ...
