Hello! My name is Sophie, and I recently graduated from Dickinson College with a degree in Biology. Throughout my academic career, I developed a strong foundation in subjects including microbiology, genetics, histology, cellular biology, and general biology. During my time at Dickinson, I worked as both a teaching assistant and tutor, where I helped students strengthen their understanding of complex scientific concepts while also building effective study habits and problem-solving skills.
In addition to my academic experience, I currently work in genomic pathology in a clinical laboratory setting. My work includes processing patient specimens, culturing and harvesting cells, performing hybridization techniques, and scanning and analyzing slides for diagnostic purposes. This hands-on experience allows me to connect classroom concepts to real-world applications in biology, medicine, and laboratory science. I especially enjoy helping students understand not only how biological systems work, but why they matter in practical and clinical settings.
As a tutor, my goal is to make science approachable, engaging, and less intimidating. I know that STEM subjects can feel overwhelming, especially when students lose confidence or feel afraid to ask questions. I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable learning at their own pace. Whether we are reviewing foundational concepts, preparing for exams, working through assignments, or developing study strategies, I want students to leave sessions feeling more confident in both their understanding and their abilities.
I also strongly believe that tutoring works best as a collaborative process. I view tutoring sessions as a team effort where we work together to identify challenges, build strategies, and celebrate progress along the way. If you think I may be a good fit for your learning goals, please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
