Hi! I’m Sophia. I am currently studying Social Work, minoring in Music, and in the Honors College at the University of Vermont. I tutor elementary writing, math, and creative subjects, and I am looking forward to meeting you! I create an individualized, supportive learning environment while also encouraging independence and self-confidence.
I’ve had four years of experience teaching children, across grades K-8 in visual art, English, theater and music. I aim to uplift and connect with my students, building their confidence as we tackle new material together. I encourage a positive, growth mindset and ultimately lead my students to thrive independently.
Since last spring, I’ve been working at Champlain Elementary’s afterschool program, with children in grades k-5. The past two summers, I’ve worked as a visual arts teacher for children ages 4-14 at Beaver Summer Camp. Additionally, I taught a virtual English class of fifty fourth and fifth graders in Thailand for two years, gaining valuable experience engaging students online and working through communication barriers.
Beyond academics, I’m happy to tutor singing or acting. I’ve been singing musical theater since third grade and currently study classical voice. I’ve also with worked with artistic nonprofits, such as VOICES Boston, a premier touring children’s choir. Across any subject I encourage creative thinking, and I hope to instill confidence in my students as people beyond how they show up in school.
