Hello, I'm Julia! I love biology, but I know it's a hard subject, plagued by memorization and unnecessarily complicated words. Hello, I'm Julia! I love biology, but I know it's a hard subject, plagued by memorization and unnecessarily complicated words. I've discovered that I can help students simplify cellular processes down, so that instead of abstract information, they're learning about their bodies, and the things their cells do every day. I use analogies, I draw, and I always let the students lead their study session, so that you are in control of what you're learning. I take a great deal of care to link concepts together, so that you get a complete picture of how your body works. I also always check for understanding - every time we go through a concept together, I ask you to explain it back to me. That way, you not only build skills in biology, but also in communication - after all, you can't earn credit for knowing biology if you can't tell anyone what you know! I also talk about the structure of questions and problems, so that you see what assumptions your teachers are making on their quizzes and test, and to teach you how to answer questions on subjects you haven't even learned or have forgotten. I want to make sure you walk away with skills you can use, as well as biology knowledge you didnt' have before.
I'm in a PhD program for Cellular and Molecular Biology, and I've completed my program's equivalent of a Master's. I've taught Cell Bio for about a year in a discussion classroom, which also included one-on-one tutoring sessions, and I've taught Genetics in a discussion setting as well. I've been teaching college-aged students for over 2 years now, and I've had a lot of experience reading and editing test questions. I make sure to center my students in their learning, and though I'm only available through online tutoring, I do my best to be as accessible as possible.
I look forward to helping you learn if I can, and I look forward to seeing what you have to teach me!
