Hello! My name is Jonna, and I am an experienced elementary school teacher based in Boston. I am originally from Virginia, where I attended Virginia Tech. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in History. After college, I moved to Boston to participate in City Year, an Americorps program focused on tutoring students in Boston Public Schools, in which I worked with fifth-grade English Language Learners. I then went to Boston College and graduated with my Master's in Elementary Education through the Donovan Urban Scholars program. I am now in my 8th year teaching at the school where I completed my student teaching. Across those years, I have worked with second, third, and fourth grades. I am currently in my third year as the Second Grade Learning Specialist, where I work with the inclusion classroom teachers to support our students with IEPs as well as working with many small groups of students across the day.

I hold three Massachusetts teaching licenses: Elementary Education (1-6), Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8), and ESL (PreK-6). I am also certified through Orton-Gillingham in the science of reading. When tutoring elementary school students in reading, this will be my primary approach. I believe in consistent, clear, and direct instruction for phonics and fluency instruction. I have 9 years of experience working with students with a variety of needs, including students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, English Language Learners, and others.

I am most interested in tutoring elementary school students in reading, math, and writing. I live in Brighton, MA and would be open to online tutoring as well as meeting at a local library. I am open to tutoring Monday-Thursday after 3:30pm.
