Hello and Welcome!
I'm Michael, a graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park where I completed a double degree in Bioengineering and English. Now, these seem like separate, non complimentary degrees, but to me they helped me approach problems in both fields from new perspectives. It's that approach, and my love to not only learn, but to help others learn, which I bring to my teaching. Each one of us learns differently, and I put the time and effort into helping each of my students approach their problems from a perspective that allows them to not only understand the material, but master it, understanding not only what they are doing, but why. I structure my lesson plans around hearing from my students on their issue and listening to how they describe the problem. From here, I help give them a vision of what the topic is about, why it's necessary, and then go in depth using instruction and clear examples. I work with students on examples, where we walk through problems step by step. Then, I finish with them solving problems independently. For each student, I alter my classes to fit their needs and goals.
I have tutored students from 6th through 12th grade, individually and in groups on a variety of subjects. Additionally, I've worked with students who had ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities. I worked in a summer math tutoring camp where I taught grade levels 6th through Algebra 2 for students ages 10-16. During this time I developed lesson plans for groups of 5-10 and worked one-on-one with a student developing their skills in Algebra 1. Additionally, as bioengineering major and English major, I've done many review sessions on STEM material including, biology, chemistry, and writing workshops for drafting and editing essays.
