Hey there! I'm Kyle, a Caltech biology grad with work experience in aerospace engineering, particle physics, synthetic biology, track & field coaching—even lighting design for live concerts! I got my start by teaching guitar in middle school, but I've spent the past 6 years working as a tutor, college counselor, and essay reviewer for private services in both California and Massachusetts. Briefly, my tutoring has included: mathematics (elementary through Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus); English (reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary); preparation for the ISEE, SCAT, ACT, SAT, and APs; personalized courses to improve creative writing and work on DBQ-style questions; and general homework help for students across the spectrum of backgrounds and neurotypes. I’ve worked with students as young as 5 and as old as 22, from across the L.A. area to universities in the Midwest, even all the way to Beijing!

I have a B.S. in biology from Caltech and three years of laboratory experience in synthetic biology. I am the 3rd author on a paper in Cell Systems on properties of genetic circuits. My B.S. in Biology from Caltech drew upon coursework from the Genetics and Molecular Biology tracks in order to fulfill my degree requirements. Working in a prominent synthetic biology lab, I was trained by a physicist-turned-biologist and mentored by a former mathematics major who found novel ways to approach biological research.

I've completed coursework that includes organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical equilibrium & analysis, and physical chemistry. Additionally, my broader background in STEM encompassed math through differential equations and physics through quantum and wave mechanics, giving me interdisciplinary insight into how the subjects all fit together. I have 5 years of research experience between labs at Caltech and BWH/Harvard/MIT that required me to put those skills into play. As a Caltech undergraduate, I had the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses in unique subjects. After taking the cooking course, PA016: Cooking Basics, I worked as a teaching assistant for the class for nearly 4 years, as well as volunteering as an assistant cook for a plethora of events--most recently a 15-course charity dinner for some kind folks from JPL! While not a master chef by any means, I'm familiar with a wide variety of styles and techniques at a working level. Styles covered included Italian, British, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Russian, Southern, Lebanese, and Argentine, with my teams incorporating additional elements of Vietnamese and Danish cuisine in their "Iron Chef"-esque final exam.

Best Tutor Ever-Brilliant

This is our second year working with Kyle and he brings out the best in my son. Kyle works with my son and Math and my son has excelled tremendously in Math since working with Kyle. My son is in collegiate academy as an incoming ninth grader and Kyle is able to help him excel in his other subjects as well such as AP Human Geography and English. Kyle is Brilliant, patient, and kind. We will work with him through out my son's high school years. There is no need for us to look for another tutor we are very Blessed to have found Kyle!
