High School and College Tutor for Spanish, Literature, Physics

Hi! I'm Jason. I have a BA in Linguistics and Spanish Language Literature, and an MA in Linguistics from Boston University. Currently I'm a graduate student in Materials Science with an emphasis on Solid State Physics, also at Boston University. Those are very different fields of study, and I find that combining approaches and methods from each discipline when approaching a problem can be very helpful. I tailor my tutoring with that in mindso students can conceptualize an issue in a different way from they're used to. My tutoring is always specific to the needs of the student, and I find an exchange between myself and the student to be most engaging.

I have two years' prior experience tutoring for the SAT and PSAT. I'm also a Teaching Assistant for a college engineering course. Working with students of different ages has allowed me to see the necessity of tailoring my tutoring approach, and has made me better able to meet students' needs.

Having come from liberal arts background, it took me some time to learn the right way to approach Physics for me. Because of this I understand the frustrations students have and can suggest different approaches from the norm in the physical sciences.

My graduate study in Linguistics compared the grammatical differences between English and Spanish, highlighting the source of errors English speakers tend to make in Spanish and vice versa. Combined with speaking proficiency from spending time in Argentina and my study of Spanish Language Literature, I'm able to help students in both speaking and writing.

While my primary experience with literature has been in Spanish, techniques for writing and analyzing literature are the same across languages. This gives me great insight into the factors that make a piece of writing good and how it can be improved.
