Everyone has something that makes them truly happy. For some, it’s personal achievement; for others, it’s working as part of a team. Personally, I am most happy when I am able to share knowledge that helps others succeed, which is why I am a tutor.

Experience

I began experimenting with one-on-one tutoring in 2012, teaching writing and French, and I found that I loved this format and the way individual help can really make a difference in someone's education.

I spent several years working as a writing tutor at the University of Wisconsin Marshfield/Wood County, where I was eventually appointed to the position of head tutor. Following that, I tutored kindergarten as an America Reads! tutor, and I spent a semester tutoring elementary students in various subjects with the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay.

Aside from these more formal programs, I started my own tutoring practice in 2016. I teach a wide range of subjects including French, English, elementary math, several artistic subjects and I help with homework in many subjects for students of all ages. I have taught many home schooled clients of various ages in specialized subjects such as foreign languages or science. I love learning along with my students and getting to know them and their strengths and weaknesses. My students especially appreciate that I am reliable and creative.

Strengths

One of the things that has been amazing about being a private tutor is the flexibility of different learning styles. Sometimes when I first meet a student, it is assumed that we'll simply read to each other, but so often it's helpful to explore the subjects in several different ways to establish core knowledge rather than just rote memorization or repetition. French

French

I have always enjoyed the French language, starting at high school and continuing to university where I graduated with honors Majoring in French and Communication. I spent one year abroad in Quebec, Canada studying immersive French. Since I began teaching French, I've learned a lot about how students learn language, and I try to focus on an immersive, direct language acquisition to help my students pick up on vocabulary and grammar naturally and without undue stress. Each student is different, which gives me the opportunity to create custom lesson plans for each one that highlight their strengths and help them overcome their struggles. I enjoy providing both independent classes and supplemental lessons in this subject,
Grammar

Grammar

Although many people speak English, not many know why we speak the way we do. Even if you look up the answers, sometimes grammar questions remain a mystery, which is why I specialize in helping students understand the parts of speech and the many exceptions to English grammar rules.
Harp

Harp

I have a harp and I play it. I am by no means a master on the topic, but I love to play and share harp music with my students. I can offer tips for getting into playing harp, from purchasing your harp, stringing it, tuning it, and getting started playing. I also offer online jam sessions if you want to play along with me (it's fun :)
Needlework

Needlework

I have been crocheting since I was very young and have enjoyed teaching all my friends and relatives whatever they're willing to learn on the subject. I'd be happy to help with anything from buying your first set of needles, how to read a pattern, helping you figure out what went wrong, and sharing practical tips on how to do more advanced stitches. Feel free to video chat with me and we can knit or crochet together. For more information, ask me about some of the projects and lessons I have available on my blog.
Photography

Photography

Not only do I have a minor in photography, but I spent several years as a professional photographer. I have experience in art photography, professional portraits, wedding photography, and camp photography. I do not teach photo editing.
Writing

Writing

I have over 10 years of experience teaching writing. My university English professor identified me as an astute and constructive writing coach for my peers, and recommended me for work in the college tutoring center, where I assisted university students with essays and creative writing projects for two years. I continued on to become a writing coach, working with publishing houses and self-publishing authors. Great tutoring experience with Sirah.

Sirah is great with our daughter and there is no doubt that she loves teaching.  She clearly makes an extra effort for the English lesson to be fun.  She is patient, kind and very professional.  For example, when I originally reached out to Sirah, she suggested setting up a Skype call to better understand our tutoring objectives.  Our positive experience with Sirah has reinforced the value of online tutors.

Wonderful Crochet lesson!

Sirah was a great and patient crochet tutor! She brought her wealth of knowledge and helpful recommendations to our lesson to help me work on the 3 types of stitches, improving tension, and how to check the number of stitches. She had a depth of knowledge about variations on the stitches, providing options to try. I am looking forward to more lessons with Sirah and expanding my skills. A knowledgeable, kind, patient, and helpful crochet tutor!

Great knowledge of crochet

Sirah was very patient and answered all my questions. She reviewed joining a ring of single crochet without twisting it and how to make the rows in a circular project look even. She went over some directions I had as well. I had a great experience

My lesson with Sirah was great!

She is a fantastic and supportive teacher. I can't wait until my next lesson. She made the lesson fun and I am already enjoying the practices more. Sirah has a very pleasant manner and a real knowledge of music.

Lovely Lessons with Sirah

She is so much fun, very creative, totally helpful and patient. She is amazingly talented at crocheting. She is conscientious about setting up lessons and responding. My crochet teacher for life!

Highly skilled and patient tutor

Sirah helped me with a confusing crochet pattern. She interpreted the poorly written pattern, demonstrated what she was doing step by step, and gave me notes on the pattern for future use. I would happily work with her again!

patient teacher

She is very patient and knowledgeable . A string broke in the middle of learning to tune my harp. My teacher was very calm and efficient; she talked me through the process of replacing a string. I enjoyed my lesson and felt that I had made progress.
