I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science: Medical Laboratory Science at University of New Hampshire with a 4.0 GPA. I hold a Medical Laboratory Scientist ASCP certification and have 3 years of work experience as a Blood Banker MLS in top hospitals in Boston. I was an Academic Mentor for 1 year in college, working 1 on 1 with students to personalize a study plan that worked for their learning style. I have experience with teaching best study strategy practices for learners with ADHD. I have taught time-management skills, effective note-taking, and how to best review for an exam. During my tutoring sessions, I will be sure to assess which approach fits best for the student- whether that be verbally breaking down larger concepts into shorter, digestible steps or drawing out a diagram of how a process works. I am a scientist AND an artist, so I am happy to cater to visual learners with creating concept maps.
As a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist, I have the specialized subject matter knowledge to explain complex concepts in microbiology, biology, and physiology. At my job, I am a trainer and teacher for new laboratory scientist employees as well as college laboratory science students completing their clinical rotation in blood bank. I have presented my own PowerPoint presentations for these students so that they can connect the theory learned in school with the policies and procedures that are followed in the lab. I consider my tutoring style to be logical and patient. I will have the student point out what areas they are struggling with, and I will come up with analogies to explain scientific concepts. I end the session by having the student answer questions so they can apply the new skills and knowledge they learned and I can plan which topics we may need to focus more on during the next session.
I am happy to tutor college students looking for help with biomedical science related classes, as well as students looking to study and pass the ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist certification board exam.
