Hello! I'm Maya, a young professional with a passion for providing high-quality, personalized, 1-1 tutoring. I graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University with my degree in Education and Social Policy, focusing in Human Development, and a second major in Sociology. For the past five years, I have found that my greatest learning did not always happen in the classroom: instead, it happened when I was working on the ground with students in my community. Through my teaching and tutoring experiences, I have grown to appreciate the power of a personalized approach, focused on students' strengths and targeted skill-building. When I can meet a student where they're at, find their motivations, and inspire them in ways that work, we can see real growth. In my tutoring sessions, students are put in the driver's seat and I am the driving instructor next to them: they get to steer, but I can help provide directions.

A typical session with me starts with connective time, followed by a structured lesson plan that focuses on student-identified areas for growth. This usually includes a brief review of challenge topics, as well as ample hands-on practice. I will always do my best to provide free resources to students to support their growth outside of sessions as well.

My experience with tutoring is far-reaching. I have spent one year as a full-time paraprofessional in a fifth grade classroom, supporting students in 1-1, small group, and whole class settings. I have 4 years of experience providing 1-1 and small group academic support in all subjects to students in grades K-5 on a twice-weekly basis. For 2 years, I provided weekly college preparatory support to students in grades 9-12, including full-service test preparation, resume writing, college essay, and financial aid guidance. My professional experience includes one year of providing career and college preparation support to students through a fellowship I co-developed.

I look forward to connecting with you to schedule a session!

Clarinet

I have studied clarinet for 12 years. I was selected to play in the New Jersey Youth Symphony, and I have participated in concert bands for the past 10 years. I have taught students in 6-8 the basics of clarinet.
College Counseling

College Counseling

At Northwestern, I led an organization dedicated to providing high-quality test preparation at no cost to students in Chicago. Here, I designed personalized lessons for students in grades 9-12 to support them for standardized tests. Additionally, I recently held a role where I designed college preparation programming for students in grades 10-12. I also volunteer with first-generation low-income students in the Greater Boston area in a college prep organization.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have five years of experience working directly with students in grades K-5, including one year as a full-time paraprofessional position working with students in a Boston public elementary school on various subjects and social-emotional learning. I continue to volunteer with BPS to provide weekly 1-1 tutoring to elementary school students.
Interview Prep

Interview Prep

In my capacity with this organization, I structured training for tutors on how to guide interview preparation for high school students looking to interview at colleges or for jobs. I also recently worked on a program providing workforce development opportunities to high school students, including structured interview preparation lessons that I designed.
Sociology

Sociology

With a degree in sociology, I have ample experience understanding the theoretical and research areas of the field. I have personally conducted independent mixed methods research in sociology, giving me a strong personal understanding of the subject. As someone with a passion for this area of study, I am eager to support others engaging with the subject!
