I'm Josh, a Senior Tax Accounting Manager here in Boston with a long history in education! Prior to my time in Boston, I always had a passion for tutoring and helping others enjoy learning, even while carrying a full-time job. This includes tutoring during my undergraduate studies at College of Charleston and graduate studies at Wake Forest University. I carry a CPA designation in both Georgia and Massachusetts, but I also have a deep appreciation and five years of tutoring experience in General Chemistry, Advanced Mathematics, and Biology. I deeply enjoy using both of my backgrounds in inspiring students to achieve more.
I tend to focus my tutoring on high school and college students (though I've tutored a few gifted middle schoolers) and my focus for the past 15 years has been through dialogue and active participation in practice problems, always focusing on showing the process of thinking and prioritizing the answer last. In students' time with me, the focus is on developing the foundations for reason and logic to think through typical problems, and less on rote memorization (though I like my share of acronyms in preparing for the CPA Exam!) I feel this gives students the agency to find answers on their own, but I'm never distant and always willing to adapt. Many of my former students had learning disabilities or poor grades, and the experience has been positive!
With many years of problem solving and experience behind me (including tutoring my own sister through pharmacy school!), I would be honored to teach through Wyzant to bring my experience and discipline to any student needing it! I am pretty flexible and available outside working hours, and am always organized enough the respond timely through the messaging board. I do this because I want to share what has made me successful in college and the professional world, so you'll always be treated with the diligence and focus you deserve.
