Hello! My name is Rachana, and I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University and a minor in Materials Science and Engineering. I have a strong academic background in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering, and I am passionate about helping students develop both confidence and curiosity in STEM subjects. I am also a National Merit Scholar and have experience developing lesson plans for SAT Math and Reading tutoring.
Throughout my academic career, I have consistently enjoyed mentoring peers and explaining complex concepts in ways that make them more approachable. As a chemical engineering student with a 3.87 GPA, I have extensive experience with subjects such as algebra, calculus, general chemistry, and analytical chemistry, as well as more focused chemical engineering courses. My coursework, industry experience, and research have also exposed me to advanced topics in electrochemistry, materials science, and data analysis.
As a tutor, my goal is not only to help students complete assignments or prepare for exams, but also to help them truly understand the underlying concepts. When material is presented in class quickly without enough context, it is easy to lose the puzzle pieces needed to solve the same kind of problem independently. I work with students to break down difficult ideas step by step and develop strategies to connect unfamiliar topics through the lens of a previous lesson.
I strive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas. Whether we are reviewing homework, preparing for an exam, or strengthening foundational skills, I aim to help students build the independence and critical thinking skills that will benefit them far beyond a single course.
I am open to tutoring in-person in the Greater Boston area or virtually!
