Brinton C.

I am a Columbia University PhD and an RSA/CTEFLA (CELTA) certified ESL teacher with over 30 years’ experience teaching in both academic institutions and independently owned language schools in the USA and Europe. I specialize in communicative English with an intensive focus on each student’s individualized goals in all skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary. I am looking forward to working with you.

One of my strengths as a teacher is my ability to understand language acquisition from the learner’s perspective. In fact, my path to teaching began as a language learner while travelling, studying, and living abroad. Like many learners, I was driven to absorb as much of the new cultures I encountered on my travels as I could and sought language programs that would enable me to communicate freely. I became an English teacher as a way of supporting myself during my travels. After I realized how much I enjoyed teaching, I got certified and started working professionally. Now, many years later, I still take special enjoyment devising lessons and exercises specifically designed for each individual student’s needs.

My students’ needs are as varied and unique as the individuals themselves. I have worked with undergraduate and graduate students attending programs at universities worldwide; second-language learners negotiating life and work opportunities their new country; global business executives and employees looking to improve their career prospects; and adult learners of all ages seeking to enhance their communicative fluency in English-speaking cultures.
