Hi! I'm Kayla!
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Concordia University Irvine with a B.A. in History & Political Thought and two minors in English and Creative Writing. I am currently enrolled in Emerson College's MFA program in Creative Writing: Fiction. I was awarded a full academic scholarship for both my undergraduate degree as well as my master's. After I graduate with my master's, I intend to go into a PhD program and hope to become a professor. Being a first generation college student has come with many challenges, but it has also encouraged my love for academics and driven me to succeed. I was fortunate enough to have teachers and professors who helped guide me to where I am now, who encouraged me and pushed me to challenge myself, and I hope to play that role for the next generation of students.
I took several teaching courses in undergrad and am currently taking a teaching course that will allow me to teach undergrad classes. I have been working with kids of all ages since I was fifteen as a nanny, a tutor, a Taekwondo instructor, and as a childcare worker. I have experience teachings kids from ages 3-18, have organized academic conferences, and have won awards for academic papers. I've worked with a large variety of kids, some with learning disabilities, some with physical disabilities. It brings me so much joy to watch kids learn and grow in their academic journeys, and I hope to bring a positive influence and perspective to their academic outlooks.
Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions! I try to respond as quickly as I can, even on the days I have classes.
