Hi, my name is Yuko!

I was born and raised in Sendai, Japan, and I’ve been teaching Japanese and piano for over 20 years in the Boston area.

I first studied English & American Literature at a university (B.A.) in Sendai, Japan, and later continued my studies at a music college in Boston , where I focused on pop, jazz, and composition. I am also a composer and singer-songwriter, and I wrote film music for the Japanese indie movie “Starseeds – Cosmic Creator.”

As a teacher, I’ve worked with homeschooled students, teens, and adults at all levels—from beginners to advanced learners. In 2025, I published my own textbook for beginners, “My First Japanese Book,” now available on Amazon Kindle. I also use well-known resources such as “Japanese for Young People” and “Minna no Nihongo.”

For students who love Japanese music, I offer a special way to learn: studying Japanese through popular J-pop and anime songs. You’ll learn pronunciation, meaning, and culture while singing your favorite songs—making Japanese both fun and unforgettable.
