Hi, my name is Drew Temel! I recently received my B.A. in Political Science, magna cum laude, from Duke University and am an incoming J.D. candidate at Harvard Law School through their Junior Deferral Program (Class of 2030). The Program requires a two-year deferral of your admission, during which I'll be receiving my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in fiction writing at Temple University. My editorial approach draws from years of experience across academic, creative, professional, and persuasive writing. I've taken countless Political Science seminars, participated in numerous Creative Writing workshops, and applied to over 15 graduate schools. During my time at Duke, I worked as a writing consultant to help my classmates communicate with precision and purpose. I've also been a freelance tutor focused on college admissions essays for nearly a year, working with students to craft a narrative and sharpen their voice.
I know how high the stakes are in these admissions processes. I know that the personal statement and supplemental essays are challenging projects. Regardless of the format or subject, my philosophy in admissions essays remains the same: tell an authentic story. My goal is to help the student convey a narrative about their life with honesty and intention. Through thoughtful reflection and analysis, each student can craft a compelling essay that reveals their character, values, and aspirations. I will help to find the right story that leaves a lasting impression on admissions offices. Another core tenet of mine is that writing is editing. Students will have a demonstrable advantage if they commit the time to draft, edit, and do it again. Throughout this process, they will discover and refine their narrative. Therefore, I'll ideally be with my students from brainstorming through multiple stages of editing, turning strong ideas into even stronger prose. Please reach out if you want a brief, free consultation or have any questions about me or my process! I'll respond as soon as possible!
