Hello! My name is Jaymar and I am a recent PharmD graduate from MCPHS University with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy Science. Throughout my years as a student at my university, I was always open to helping fellow peers with their learning journeys through tutorship. I have been a peer tutor for 5 years within my university and helped to tutor various subjects including chemistry, biochemistry, and biostatistics. Though these subjects can be difficult to learn, I always made sure to check students' baseline understanding to then build upon that foundation to solve problems. I enjoy tutoring others one-one-one and I have a couple years of experience of tutoring online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a tutor, I always want students to build their own critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies. If the student and myself do not know the answer, I can point them towards referring to class notes or looking at a trusted resource together to progress through a tough problem. I believe that empathy and compassion in a tutoring environment is essential since the more a student can grow in confidence with their academic knowledge, the more prepared they would be to tackle challenging real-life scenarios involving concepts I have tutored in. When holding tutoring sessions, I enjoy using practice problems that I create so that I would not provide the answer that a student needs for a graded assessment. Rather, I am helping them to use the problem-solving skills learned from practice problems to apply it to any problems encountered in the future. I look forward to helping future students of mine in building their academic knowledge to succeed.
