Through the six years I studied architecture in college to the multiple years of fulltime work, I've come to learn numerous tools and technologies that assist in design and also workflows. Programs like Photoshop, Indesign, Sketchup, AutoCad, Rhino, and Revit were all used. However, one of the issues I realized was that many classes don't teach past the basics of these programs or technologies. Sometimes these aren't even taught at all. All of this is usually under the statement that programs like Revit "hinder design". I disagree with this statement. In my opinion, if you know how to use the program well, you can manipulate it do what you want. Not only this, but some programs like Revit can allow you to produce drawings and renderings in half the time.

In my professional career so far I've interned at an architecture firm doing design work while in college and then for a year full time afterwards. Following this I've worked at another firm on the support side as a design technologist. Here I developed the more technical sides of programs such as Revit worksharing, Autodesk Construction Cloud, VR, AR, AI, and rendering tools such as photoshop and Enscape.

Over the course of the last 10 years I've developed a way to learn and teach others about more technologies, both hardware and software, that can assist designers with their work, speed up workflows, and all around make them better designers.

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

Through the 6 years at college, from working in design by hand on presentation boards to using software, InDesign has become a stable of my knowledge. I've continued to use InDesign through my 5 years of professional experience. I've designed boards and presentations in the software to teach others in the firm multiple other topics.
Architecture

Architecture

I studied architecture for 6 years in school, doing hand drawn plans for the first year and a half. From there the complexities of projects and designs increased as I added more detail, computer software such as AutoCAD and Revit, 3d printing, and CNC. I've worked on residential, libraries, hotels, comprehensive designs, and makerspaces, as well as multiple hand and machine made models. Professionally, I worked doing design and then moved into the technical side of Architecture.
AutoCAD

AutoCAD

I started learning CAD in highschool through multiple drafting classes. From there I continued to use it throughout college working on plans, but also landscape drawings/site plans, and creation of site models. Afterword I used CAD professionally in both jobs since college, working with the software to import into Revit, and Coordinate between multiple firms and design disciplines.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Have written many essays, presentations, and presentation boards throughout college, grad school, and profressionally.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As much as an Architectural degree is about design, it also trains you how to speak publicly. There are multiple presentations you need to do to explain your design/process/conclusions throughout projects to not only your classmates and professor, but also professionals brought in to critique. After college, this transitioned to speaking to multiple other people in the office in design meetings, lunch and learns, teaching sessions, and 1on1s. Over the years, I've come to learn how to speak fluently and concisely about the subject matter at hand and can give tips as well as instruction on how to successfully speak publicly.
Revit

Revit

I started learning Revit in college and then used it for my first school project the same semester. Afterwards I continued it's use for all nearly all future undergrad and gradschool projects. I'm become profession in creating 3d models, 2d documentation drawings, site modeling, and the coordination aspect as well. These skills only improved as I used Revit after grad school professionally.
Sketchup

Sketchup

I've used Sketchup for multiple years in college to create simple design sketch models, as well as simple renderings. However, over time I became much more fluent with the program and used it to model both exteriors and interiors for rendering professionally. This allowed me to work in-depth with groups, layers, materials, and more. I also have made site models within Sketchup as well.

Great 1st Session

Trevor was very patient and accommodating. He reached out and asked for some background information before we started the session so tha he could devise a plan. He listened and met my daughter where she was. It was a great 1st session and we already have our next one scheduled. We are grateful for his help.
