Hi, I'm Takuma. I'm a native Japanese speaker who spent 2 decades in the US and a decade pursuing a PhD at MIT. With a unique blend of academic and professional experience, I teach Math, Physics, Biology, Programming, 3D Modeling, Japanese, and English.
I was born and raised in Japan, and at 18, I was accepted into the University of Tokyo, Japan's top university, before moving to the United States to study physics. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I pursued a PhD in Biophysics at MIT, where I worked as a Teaching Assistant helping undergraduate and graduate students tackle complex topics in physics. Over the past few years, I’ve tutored students of all ages, from elementary school learners to adults, in both one-on-one and group settings. Whether I'm guiding a middle schooler through algebra or helping a college student master advanced physics, I tailor each lesson to the student's individual learning style and goals. My teaching emphasizes clear explanations, real-world applications, and interactive methods to make even the toughest subjects approachable and engaging.

Beyond academics, I work as a professional interpreter and translator, which has sharpened my communication skills and ability to adapt to diverse learners. I also run a small business centered on STEM-related projects, including 3D printing and electronics, which allows me to incorporate hands-on, practical examples into my lessons. I believe learning should be both empowering and enjoyable, and I strive to inspire curiosity and confidence in every student.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a session. I look forward to helping you reach your academic goals!

Biology

Biology

During my PhD at MIT in biophysics, I was a competitive graduate researcher in cutting edge biology who not only organized and developed my own project from scratch but also collaborated with many colleagues. My background is physics and math, but I learned biology extensively for my research and also through my research. As a private tutor who teaches a number of subjects, with a record of academic achievements, I and confident in helping students grasp concepts in biology as well as acquire study habits and how to think critically.
