I have been tutoring since high school, with over 5 years of experience, and having worked with 50+ students. I first began tutoring in high school, tutoring high schoolers of all grade levels in trigonometry and calculus. During covid, I tutored a 6th grader in arithmetic and basic algebra. During two years of college, I tutored fellow undergrads of all ages and backgrounds in economics and mathematics classes. The people I tutored had various backgrounds, including a returning 35 year old looking at algebra for the first time in over a decade, and multiple international students who struggled with English. The classes I taught ranged from introductory level economics and calculus classes, to advanced econometrics and multivariable calculus classes. All of these experiences were in one-on-one settings, sometimes in-person, other times online, dependent on the tutee's preference.
My opinion on tutoring is that everyone needs an approach unique to them. Different people learn differently, so using the same tricks and techniques for everyone does not work best. I pride myself in my ability to work with a student of any age, academic level, and background, which I do by explaining and demonstrating concepts in multiple different ways. I am happy to work with people on a recurring basis throughout a semester, or one time before a test; my only goal is to help the student understand more after they meet with me than before.
