I have my Masters in Biomedical Engineering, have worked as a tutor for over 7 years, and am a dedicated High School Chemistry and Biology Teacher. In my years of tutoring, I have been trained in SAT/ACT prep, as well as worked with countless students on various AP Examinations.

My first experience tutoring was in high school as a method of studying for the many AP and honors classes I was taking. During this time, I developed a keen eye for different ways of thinking in the students I was helping, be it more visual thinkers, direct verbal learners, or something entirely different. Each person I encountered brought a different light to the topics we covered, helping me build a repertoire of lesson plans, unit summaries, and techniques. However, I strived for more. As word got out, I began to tutor individuals that were in CP classes and even younger siblings in middle and elementary school. Not only were there different ways of thinking that I could learn from, but I was also able to train myself in how to explain concepts to different levels of understanding. Currently, I am constantly looking for more ways to improve myself and how I deliver knowledge and understanding to those I tutor; my number one rule is there is always room for growth and to take pride in how far you've come.

First look: The first session always begins with a 'getting to know you', this includes a background in curriculum, understanding level, and some conceptual tests of learning style. This develops a preliminary understanding of the student's needs, and how best I can fit those needs. After every session, I carefully consider what we achieved, what we still need to work on, and how concepts learned can be reinforced with practice (this is typically provided after every session as worksheets or videos). As we progress, a bird's eye view is developed, connecting the various topics and tools having been taught, ultimately leading to a focused and framed understanding for the student.

ACT Math

ACT Math

Doing well on the ACT is a matter of knowing how and what to study. My goal for preparation of a student is being completely transparent about the test and how to study for it, what you need to know, and providing materials for the student to look over on their own after the lesson.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have over 40 hours of Algebra II tutoring experience and have been trained in SAT and ACT tutoring (which include many concepts from Algebra II).
Biology

Biology

During my undergraduate and graduate degree, I have taken all courses in biology up to organic chemistry 2 and tissue engineering, with no less than an A in any particular class. In addition to this, I consistently held tutoring sessions with fellow students and have over 40 hours of relevant 1-on-1 tutoring younger ages in elementary, middle school, and high school level biology courses.
Calculus

Calculus

Have taken AP Calculus AB and College Calculus 2 & 3, not receiving less than a A in any class. I have over 80 hours in tutoring Calculus to fellow classmates and younger ages, having found tens of different ways of explaining a concept given the students strengths. In addition, I have 30 hours on record of tutoring AP Calculus BC.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a current Chemistry teacher and have years of experience tutoring chemistry to students of all ages and mastery levels. I love chemistry and being able to understand the mechanical processes of the actual molecules helped me a lot in teaching the importance and functions of such mechanisms. Throughout college, I have received no lower than an A for any and all chemistry-related classes I have taken, as well as tutored fellow classmates and students throughout the past years.
Physics

Physics

Over 100+ hours of AP physics tutoring experience
Precalculus

Precalculus

Over 50+ hours of tutoring precalculus, with plenty of additional resources available for students for homework and support outside of sessions.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I believe that doing well on the PSAT/SAT has a lot to do with the outside work that a student puts into preparing. Having a tutor will help this process of preparation, and I believe any student is perfectly capable of a near perfect score on the SAT. Lesson plans based on student evaluation at the beginning, with weekly/montly improvement lesson plans.

Knowledgeable and flexible tutor.

As a college student who has struggled with math for a long time, Lena has been a wonderful tutor. She is currently guiding me through the intricacies of both Algebra 1 and 2. One of Lena's greatest strengths is her teaching style, which is both clear and flexible. She has an impressive ability to adapt to my specific learning needs. Whenever we encounter a topic that I didn't initially realize I needed to delve into, she seamlessly adjusts our lesson plan to ensure I gain a solid grasp of it. Additionally, her review packets at the end of our study sessions have been a lifesaver.

Super helpful

I saw a significant improvement in my daughters understanding of physics after just a few sessions. At first she didn’t feel confident or comprehend any of the material, as she had more session with Lena, she began to understand the topics. Very helpful and grateful for the tutoring sessions.

Goes above and beyond

Although I've only had one session with her, I will definitely use her services again in the future. First session she helped me identify my weaknesses in math, gave advice, and sent resources where I could practice and formula sheets to use. She was very kind and patient. Overall I am happy with my experience and felt it helped a lot! Thank you!
