Hello! My name is James, and I am a Humanities Tutor with a Master’s degree in Intercultural Studies and an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies. I specialize in religion, history, theology, and cultural studies, with a strong focus on helping students think critically about culture, belief systems, historical movements, and the human experience. For nearly a decade, I worked as a pastor teaching and preaching in churches both large and small, where I developed extensive experience communicating complex ideas in clear, engaging, and accessible ways to students and audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds.
In addition to my pastoral experience, I later transitioned into academic and educational work where I designed workshops, facilitated leadership development programs, and led cultural awareness training. I have experience teaching students ranging from middle school through adult learners in both group and one-on-one settings. My academic work has also included research in religious history, theology, interfaith dialogue, and cultural analysis. Whether helping a student prepare for a class, strengthen research and writing skills, or better understand difficult historical or theological concepts, I aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment built around curiosity and growth.
My tutoring style is conversational, student-centered, and rooted in critical pedagogy and self-authorship. I encourage students not only to learn information, but to ask thoughtful questions, think critically, and develop confidence in their own voice and understanding. I welcome students from a wide variety of educational, cultural, and religious backgrounds, and I strive to create an open and respectful environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and growing academically.
