All-age tutor passionate about chemistry and the environment

I graduated from Hampshire College with a BA in Environmental Science and a minor in creative writing. I am especially passionate about chemistry and how it can be taught much more effectively in context. As an undergraduate student, one of the most rewarding activities I did was to be a teaching assistant for two general chemistry courses. I believe in the importance of teaching science through doing and observing no matter the age, and as such, can bring a wealth of practical lab and research experience to my mentorship. I have experience teaching adults and middle-school age kids, and I especially value a personal relationship to my students so that I can tailor my lessons to individual needs and learning styles.

As a teaching assistant at college, I not only organized and setup the lab for class, but was on call to help students during the lab sections with their experiments. I was also responsible for holding open tutoring sessions, and this was where I began to really love connecting with students. I especially love connecting math concepts into physical science, and making other cross-disciplinary bridges. Haven taken significant college coursework in environmental sciences, geology, and other natural science subjects, I can offer a multi-disciplinary approach to science tutoring with a focus on tying in learning to into environmental consciousness.

I am an avid fiddler with experience performing and connecting with musicians of all ages and abilities. I worked at a brass instrument summer camp for kids, and have tutored individual students in beginning violin. I am passionate about all fiddle styles, but am particularly knowledgeable about Irish traditional, old-time, bluegrass, and local New England styles.
