Hi, I’m Matthew! I have been tutoring in mathematics off-and-on for more than five years. I specialize in helping high school and college students understand challenging math concepts by breaking them down into simple, relatable steps. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Sciences (3.96 GPA) and a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics (4.0 GPA) from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
Prior to college, I scored a five on both the calculus and statistics AP exams and got a perfect score on the SAT Math subject test. At WPI, I was an active member of the Math Club and a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society. I also received the math department's Olson Award in 2020 and Dimensions Award in 2022. Additionally, I have passed the Society of Actuaries professional exams in probability and financial mathematics.
I have classroom experience as a graduate teaching assistant for linear algebra with the mathematics department at WPI, as well as experience with one-on-one tutoring in a variety of subjects including linear algebra, calculus, and group theory in WPI's Math Tutoring Center. I was an assistant math teacher for the Medway Public Schools Summer Boost program in 2023. I also spent some time working with high school students as an instructor at Mathnasium. I’ve worked with students across a wide range of skill levels and learning styles.
Math has always been my passion, and I aim to help students understand the “why” behind what they’re learning to spark that same passion in them, rather than just memorizing formulas. My tutoring approach is patient, supportive, and focused on clarity. I believe that with the right explanation and a little encouragement, every student can succeed—even in subjects that once felt out of reach.
