To whom it may concern,
My teaching career began performing student teaching with third and fourth graders at the Martin Luther King School in Dorchester. I then spent a year in Arlington as a permanent building substitute working with students on the autism spectrum and with identified behavioral issues. The practicum for my Master’s degree in Elementary Education was teaching science to a special needs group.
I have been lead instructor to levels 5 and 6 English and Mathematics for the last year in Chinatown. In this position I am required to differentiate instruction for many lessons between students who are ahead of grade level and students who are struggling with the concepts. I have also been successful raising students’ scores into the ninetieth percentile working as a private tutor for the I.S.E.E.
My respect for other people’s cultures is at the core of my teaching philosophy. I completed a course of study in International Relations as an undergraduate and displayed proficiency in Spanish. I worked closely with students from England, China, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador. I provided instruction to Level 1 and Level 2 English Language Learners at the Ottoson Middle School in Arlington. My class included students from Korea, China, Japan, Turkey, Africa and South America.
I am licensed in Massachusetts and possess a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I also earned my certification in Sheltered English Immersion by completing Rethinking Equity Teaching English Language Learners.
I look forward to discussing your expectations and answering any questions you may have.
Thanks very much for you consideration.
Sincerely,
Chris L.
