Thank you so much for all your tutoring so far. We wish him much success on this upcoming SAT, especially the essay writing section.
We really appreciate all the insights, comments, advice and tips you have shared with him and guided him through. It's not been long, but we are impressed with your hard work and professional capabilities.
David likes your tutoring. We will contact you after his SAT.
Laura is helping my kids improve reading and writing skills. She will also help them develop vocabulary and grammar. I am impressed with her style of tutoring.
Laura was very patient and professional while helping me with my personal statement. I can often be difficult to work with, given my ideas and visions and Laura did her very best to accommodate these while collaborating with me.
We started working on SSAT and analogies today and my kids really responded to her and got a lot out of her method of teaching. She gave them homework and we look forward to the next session.
She is a great teacher and is always prepared for class. My kids love her teaching. We are glad we found her.
Laura seems to be very knowledgable and with quite a few tips/tools to help my daughter. We are very glad that my daughter has her as the tutor. Looking forward to the future sessions.
After my daughter’s first session with Laura, she felt more confident and had several ah-ha moments on that first day! Working with Laura, my daughter knew that Laura’s tutoring would help her not only on the ACT test, but also in her daily classes! My daughter has always struggled with writing & reading. Over the past year, a light switch was turned on and her skills had improved. The work that she did with Laura, adjusted the brightness on that dimmer switch! During the tutoring sessions Laura focused on points that my daughter missed in class. My daughter enjoyed her learning time with Laura, which she doesn’t say too often for a girl who went to ‘school’ in the summer!
Personally, I loved the session updates! Being tutored for a whole summer could have been grueling but Laura made each session meaningful & the assignments manageable. Bottom line, my daughter’s ACT scores in Writing improved 5 points & Reading improved 4 points – Outstanding!
She is very helpful with vocabulary, reading and comprehension tips. She has recommended great books for my daughter for pleasure reading, who is a reluctant reader. Very pleased.
Laura brought in some sample work that we went over and how to work with the tricky multiple choice questions. After I have my essays done I will send them to her.
Laura C. met with our son over the course of several weeks, with a view to helping him finalize English, history, and philosophy papers in a timely manner for his classes. Their meetings were beneficial for him, helping him to focus, to organize his thoughts and express them clearly and effectively, and to complete his papers on time.
Laura went beyond the call of duty, reviewing our son's syllabus and assignments to determine how best to meet requirements, diligently reading the materials about which he was writing in order to help him synthesize his ideas, and accommodating his unpredictable schedule. Her tutoring strategies are intelligent and clear: she provided outlines of different types of academic papers and helped our son determine which approach was required for a given assignment. Her reports to us on their meetings were well considered and encouraging.
We are grateful to Laura for her work with our son. She is an excellent and very responsible tutor.
My daughter has learned from Laura the skills needed to achieve success for her future. She never complains about going to see Laura; instead she always says in the car on the ride home that "The two hours flew by." Laura is a professional tutor who not only strives for excellence in her students, but also strives for success in her lessons as well. Could not be happier with our choice.
This was our first experience using WyzAnt and a tutor. Laura was the perfect fit for my son. She is patient and extremely smart. She had the ability to boost his vocabulary confidence tremendously and encourage him in such a positive manor. He was so eager to see her each week and review and learn new words and SSAT strategies. I cannot thank her enough and I hope to work with her again in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach English in the state of Massachusetts for grades 5-12. I have also spent over 7 years as a literacy tutor in elementary and middle schools. I have worked with students on reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary, and learning how to write effectively. Students I tutored enjoyed significant improvements in reading and writing skills.
Grammar is the glue that holds sentences together. When used properly, it fades into the background and lets words shine through. When used improperly or avoided all together, it bogs down sentences and makes them hard to understand.
I will be happy to explain 10 important rules for comma usage and how to use semicolons and colons properly. I can explain the difference between a sentence fragment (dependent clause) and a complete sentence (independent clause). I can also diagnose and explain a number of common grammatical errors: lack of noun-verb agreement, lack of parallelism, misplaced modifiers, and comma splices to name a few.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge of grammar with students. Please let me know if I can help your son or daughter.
