Hello! My name is Salena V. and I have been teaching sociology at the college level for the past 14 years. I have extensive training in social problems, gender issues, and multicultural studies in addition to many years teaching comparative religion. My husband and I are new to the Boston area - having moved here from the suburbs of Chicago. I have two son's, no pets, and am the youngest of five children.
I graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN with my BA in sociology with a minor in communication. I also graduated from Indiana University with a graduate certificate in non-profit management before going to Valparaiso University and earning a MA in human behavior and society before finally attaining a post-graduate certificate in liberal studies (focus in sociology). I have taught at a couple community colleges as well as private colleges and one four year university.
I have a passion for teaching sociology and am able to work with students will a variety of needs and those who range from beginning sociology all the way to upper class sociology majors. Teaching introductory levels of sociology has enabled me to break down the essential parts of the subject in order to help my students retain information.
