Hello, I’m Garret.
I am an undergraduate student and researcher at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I am pursuing a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am a Dean's List student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA across my biology, chemistry, and physics coursework to date.
Prior to university, I graduated high school with a 4.24 GPA and was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Commended Scholar, and a recipient of a Certificate of Merit in the 2024 USA Biolympiad (USABO) Open Exam. I took AP courses including Biology, Chemistry, Calculus BC, English Language, and English Literature, in which I earned scores of 5, 4, 4, 5, and 5, respectively.
My experience in teaching and education has taken place in both community engagement and competitive leadership. I have spent four years working with elementary students (2nd-3rd) through weekend programs and summer camps, teaching different lessons, running activities, and making sure students stay engaged. Furthermore, as captain of our high school Science Olympiad team, I mentored teammates on complex STEM topics and led our group to achieve a school-record seven medals. These experiences have improved my skills to make difficult concepts into engaging material, whether working with large groups in a classroom setting or providing one-on-one instruction.
In our sessions, I will start by getting to know the student’s goals and strengths, then use practice problems and discussions to identify gaps. From there, I will use targeted lessons that break down tough topics into manageable steps. I tutor foundational math (arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry), science (biology, chemistry), and English (reading comprehension and writing). I am comfortable supporting homework, reinforcing class material, or teaching something new.
If you have questions, want to discuss the needs of your child, or would like to schedule a lesson, please reach out. I look forward to working together and helping your student grow.
