I am an academic with extensive tutoring and teaching experience. I hold an M.D. and am completing my Ph.D. in Epidemiology at UMass Amherst, where I have served as a teaching assistant and one-on-one tutor for statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health courses. Before that, I taught full-time at Springfield College, where I instructed college-level biology, microbiology, and biochemistry in both classroom and lab settings, and have also taught mathematics at the post-secondary level.

I have worked with students from middle school to graduate programs in classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one sessions spanning over two decades of teaching. I know that the biggest obstacle is rarely intelligence; it's finding the right explanation. I adapt my approach to each student, whether that means building intuition, working through problem sets together, or finally making sense of a concept that hasn't clicked yet.

For statistics and quantitative courses, I focus on the reasoning behind the numbers, not just the procedures. For science courses, I draw on years of lab and research experience to make abstract concepts concrete. For Spanish, I am a native speaker who has taught and communicated professionally in both languages for over 20 years.

I am teaching three sections of a first-year seminar at UMass Amherst, and remain actively engaged in university-level instruction. I am patient, flexible, and genuinely enjoy helping people learn. Whether you are a pre-med student tackling microbiology, a graduate student navigating statistics, or anyone who needs a clear and supportive guide through challenging material, I would love to work with you.

Approved Subjects

Epidemiology

Epidemiology

I am completing my doctoral dissertation in Epidemiology at UMass Amherst, where I have worked as a teaching assistant and tutor for epidemiology and public health courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. My research experience includes leading a state-commissioned study on the health impacts of legalized gambling in Massachusetts, as well as contributing to infectious disease forecasting projects. I have taught middle school students about epidemiology through a public health enrichment program, giving me experience explaining the subject across a wide range of backgrounds and levels. Whether you are new to the field or working through advanced methods, I can help you build a solid understanding of epidemiological concepts and research.
Microbiology

Microbiology

I taught General Microbiology, Microbiology Lab, Virology and Immunology, and Medical Microbiology as a full-time instructor at Springfield College. My background also includes hands-on laboratory experience from early in my career, including isolating and maintaining bacterial cultures, gram staining, and working in molecular genetics and stem cell labs. As an MD, I bring clinical context to microbiology that helps students connect the science to real-world medical applications. I have taught students in both lecture and lab settings, and I am comfortable working with anyone from a student taking their first biology course to a pre-med student preparing for the MCAT.
R

R

I have used R extensively throughout my doctoral research in Epidemiology at UMass Amherst, including statistical modeling, survey data analysis, and data visualization. I have applied R in published research projects, including work on infectious disease forecasting and state-commissioned public health studies. As a teaching assistant for graduate-level epidemiology and biostatistics courses, I have helped students work through quantitative assignments and coding challenges in R. I can help you with everything from getting started with the basics to working through more advanced statistical analyses for your own research or coursework.
Spanish

Spanish

Spanish is my first language, and I have spoken, written, and worked professionally in it for my entire life. I have taught English as a second language to grade school students in Guatemala, which gave me firsthand experience navigating the challenges of language learning from both sides. I have also drafted policy documents, conducted research interviews, and published professional work in Spanish, so I can help students with everything from conversational fluency to academic and professional writing. Whether you are a beginner or looking to polish your skills for work or travel, I am happy to help.
Statistics

Statistics

I have served as a teaching assistant and tutor for statistics and biostatistics courses at UMass Amherst, including Analysis of Epidemiologic Data, Introduction to Biostatistics for Public Health, and Principles of Epidemiology. My doctoral research has given me extensive hands-on experience applying statistical methods to real-world public health data, including survey analysis, regression modeling, and infectious disease forecasting. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind statistical methods rather than just the procedures, which makes the material more intuitive and easier to retain. Whether you are struggling with a specific concept or need ongoing support through a quantitative course, I am glad to help.
