My name is Heather, and I am an experienced Teacher with an extensive background in Psychology, Biology, and Neuroscience. I hold a M.S. in Interdisciplinary Neuroscience from the University of Delaware, and a B.A. in Psychology with minors in Cognitive Science and Biology from the SUNY Geneseo, graduating summa cum laude. I have been tutoring and/or teaching for 5 years, in classrooms and one on one. My experience as a College Biology Lab Instructor, Certified High School Science Teacher, and my school’s Department Chair of the Sciences allows me to design tutoring materials and lectures that support a holistic understanding of the subject.
My background in Neuroscience and Psychology allows me to bring a unique advantage to the role of teaching. Neuroscience has equipped me with a deep understanding of how learning and memory work, and with this knowledge I can design teaching methods and study strategies in a way that optimize information retention and maximize learning. With my knowledge of Psychology, I understand the cognitive and emotional factors that influence learning. Being able to identify and address potential barriers to learning, such as stress, motivation, or self-esteem, and employing evidence-based techniques to enhance student engagement, attention, and motivation will benefit each of my students.
