I hold a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and completed a pre-medical, post-bacc at Harvard.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic, individualized approach. I tailor each session to my student’s learning style, goals, and background—whether that means breaking down complex topics into accessible steps, building stronger study habits, or reigniting motivation. I believe that success in learning comes from understanding how you learn best, and I work closely with my students to help them discover that.

Above all, I genuinely enjoy getting to know my students—their goals, challenges, and passions—and helping them build the tools to achieve success in and beyond the classroom. I believe everyone can be successful with the right support, and I’m excited to help you reach your academic potential.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In addition to earning A’s in my algebra class I have been tutoring Algebra since 2012. I focus on isolating gaps in knowledge of students and making sure that students have a firm grasp of basic mathematical principles. I have experience improving grades, preparing for algebra classes, as well as supplementing homeschool curricula.

Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a teaching fellow in organic chemistry at Harvard. I can teach all levels of chemistry and specialize in acid/base chemistry. I have 10+ years of experience tutoring with all learning levels.
College Counseling

College Counseling

In addition to my own college application experience (after which I attended and graduated from Duke University) I have also helped many students apply and get into colleges. I have helped out students with different backgrounds and career goals select schools best for them. We then work on showcasing their applications to schools to highlight qualities valued by the school. I work with students to fine tune their apps as well as help them manage their general strategy. There are no guarantees in college admittance but all of my students have gotten into their top 1 or 2 schools.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have been tutoring math for nearly a decade; I first started out teaching elementary math. I have found that throughout upper level math, many common issues are a result of elementary math difficulties. These subjects are difficult because there is less conceptualization for students – as a result I focus on simplifying complex problems to put these concepts into context so students are better able to grasp them.
Genetics

Genetics

As part of my engineering experience at Duke, I conducted research in proteomics. This included having knowledge of genetics and as well as the ability to design genes. I am also well versed in DNASTAR software and genetic databases.
Geometry

Geometry

In addition to earning an A in my geometry class, I have experience applying concepts of geometry to the world around us via engineering. As a result, I am able to contextualize the theorems and corollaries in geometry so that students are better able to understand them.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I have used MATLAB for four years and use it for independent research as well as modeling projects. I have used this program to model transport problems about HIV migration and infection as well as signal processing of images and sound files. When teaching, I focus more on the process of coding in MATLAB (the thought process of what functions and loops to put where) in conjunction with specific functions and syntax.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

In addition to earning A’s in my prealgebra classes I have been tutoring prealgebra since 2012. I focus on isolating gaps in knowledge of students and making sure that students have a firm grasp of basic mathematical principles. This means reviewing topics from previous classes if necessary and looking at the specific theories behind concepts in this topic.
Precalculus

I also completed my IB diploma and have experience teaching pre-calculus as part of the IB curricula.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I taught debate courses for four years including presentation skills and speech writing. I also founded a summer camp and taught there for two years in the art of debate. Public speaking was once a great fear of mine and I trained many who were afraid of public speaking, now these students do so with ease.
Trigonometry

Emma takes the time to get to know who she is working with, then take that knowledge and applies it to that person's way of thinking to make more understandable for them. bottom line, she's just AMAZING! recommend her for anyone needing help with math. G.S.
