During my undergraduate and graduate studies we had proficiency exams that I had to pass in order to graduate. I have been playing piano since I was in high school and have been teaching beginner to intermediate piano for about 8 years. I incorporate all aspects of music during the lesson such as, music history, theory, rhythm, intonation, solfege, and ear-training so that my students can develop good habits from the beginning and can excel at a faster rate while learning the material correct the first time.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

During my undergraduate and graduate studies I had daily study in Sight-Singing in a classroom setting with weekly exams. I graduated with honors magna cum laude and have carried out these studies into my own teaching, so that my students have a deeper understanding of Music Theory/Sight-singing and they can learn to hear the relationship between notes and can develop good intonation from an early start.
Violin

Violin

I have been playing the Viola for almost 20 years and have been teaching both violin and viola for almost 8. The violin and viola are extremely similar. They both share three of the same strings, whereas the viola has a low C and the violin has a high E. They read music the same way, except the viola also reads alto clef to make up for the lower string and to avoid an abundance of ledger lines below or above the staff. I enjoy playing both violin and viola and encourage my students to have fun, develop good practice habits and to express themselves through the art of music.
