As I enter my 30th year as a life science educator, I bring extensive classroom and specialized teaching experience to my tutoring practice. Throughout my career, I have taught middle and high school students (7th through 12th grade) in both traditional classroom environments and intensive summer school programs. My foundational subject knowledge is grounded in a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, which is supported by two Master of Science degrees—one in Secondary Education and another in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, I hold a 15-credit certificate in special education teaching, which has deeply informed my ability to adapt my lessons to meet the needs of all learners.
My instructional approach is heavily rooted in Project-Based Learning (PBL) and differentiated instruction. I have a profound passion for working with students who historically struggle with school, helping them break down complex concepts at their own pace to build genuine academic confidence. To make science highly engaging and accessible, I frequently utilize an interdisciplinary approach, such as integrating novels and historical literature into my science units. This cross-curricular method not only provides a rich narrative context but also helps students who might be stronger in the humanities find a comfortable, engaging foothold in STEM.
While I am highly qualified to teach all areas of general biology, my specific areas of expertise and enthusiasm are genetics, ecology, and environmental science. My decades in the classroom, coupled with my early professional background working as a laboratory technician and in quality control, allow me to bridge the gap between theoretical textbook concepts and real-world scientific applications. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to meet students exactly where they are, tailor my instruction to their unique learning styles, and empower them to make sense of the life sciences around them.

I am currently entering my 30th year as a high school biology teacher. Over the past 21 years, I have focused extensively on developing specialized instructional techniques to support all learners, including neurodivergent learners, specifically those with ADHD and autism. Through these tailored strategies, I strive to create an inclusive learning environment that empowers every individual, from those needing foundational accommodations to the most advanced students.

Botany

Botany

Botany is my main hobby. I spent years 10+ years working at landscape and garden centers. Over the past 21 years, I have focused extensively on developing specialized instructional techniques to support all learners, including neurodivergent learners, specifically those with ADHD and autism.
Earth Science

Earth Science

Throughout my career, I have been required to teach earth science courses. My students have focused on hands-on inquiry into the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. I use differentiated instruction and PBL to connect the dots for struggling learners.
Ecology

Ecology

Environmental Science

Environmental Science

Massachusetts life science standards are integrated with environmental science. Each spring, my honors students do a deep dive into human impact on our environment. We couple this with working farm trips and soil and water testing. For their final project, students must replicate a working farm and solve for one possible disaster, such as chemical pollutants in their orchard.
Genetics

Genetics

As a veteran biology educator with two years of hands-on genetics research at Massachusetts General Hospital, I bring exceptional depth to science instruction. Each fall, my students spend three months digging into genetics history, theories, and modern techniques. My students experience field trips to Biogen and Novartis and then complete a final project detailing the lab, human genome, and literature they have studied.
