My name is Marcy and I am a trumpet instructor with 18 years of experience teaching private lessons. Hearing young musicians grow in their craft has been one of the biggest joys so much that I decided to go to school for it. After graduating from college, my plan was to take on a graduate degree in trumpet performance and instrumental conducting. But teaching was so rewarding that I decided to jump into a teaching position and figure out what I don't know. I began my professional career young as a freelance musician in the southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi regions in all types of venues. During my time in my undergrad, I was in the Southeastern Louisiana University Wind Symphony all my years in school with two years as the assistant principal and two years principal. I was a semi finalist in the Kappa Kappa Psi Concerto Competition performing "Carnival of Venice" by J.B. Arban and won the following year with the 2nd and 3rd movements of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Throughout my time, I also played with the University Orchestra as assistant principal my freshman year and principal from sophomore year until graduating. In Jazz Ensemble I, I was lead trumpet all five years and also played piano in Jazz Ensemble II. Along with playing in brass quintets, faculty brass quintet, conducting the clarinet ensemble, and understudying conducting with the Director of Bands, I was very busy with some incredible opportunities teaching in the community in the band camps, teaching master classes, helping at band screening nights in the middle schools and even guest conducted community groups and schools.
