Hi, all! I really hope to work with you sometime. :) Here's a little info about my background:
I earned my honors undergraduate degree in English Writing and own a certificate in Editing and Publishing. What does a tutoring session look like with me?
Tutoring is a collaborative space. I want you to see that you can be a great writer, and you have amazing ideas. I start sessions by asking to see your prompt and where you are in the writing process. You can come to me with nothing written, even. We can start with brainstorming or your third draft -- anything is fine.
Then, I'll ask you what your main concern is (is it grammar? Getting ideas down? Organization?). Once we go over the prompt and your main concerns, either me or you will read aloud, paragraph by paragraph. Each paragraph, we'll stop and review. This is a hands-on experience. We'll both be looking at your work and editing on the page as we move forward, prioritizing what we both think is the most important for improvement.
15 minutes until the session is over, I'll ask you if there is anything else we haven't gone over that you really want to get out of this session. We'll review that as much as we can. I'll leave you with actionable items, and you can feel free to schedule another appointment with me. :) Sounds good?
This is the approach I've done for a couple of years working with undergraduates, graduate students, and older adults. Those are the age groups that work best with me! Should you need any sourcing guides, I can also provide tutoring in that regard.
I really want to stress this: Everyone has the ability to be a good writer! I will be of ample help while encouraging a collaborative learning environment. I'd love to work with you, so feel free to connect
