Heyo! I’m Kierra, a double major in Biochemistry and Neuroscience at Xavier University of Louisiana with a passion for helping students succeed in STEM. I have always had a strong aptitude for mathematics and science, earning a 100% in my college Calculus course at Xavier.
My foundation for learning comes from a lesson my 7th-grade teacher taught me: if you can teach a topic, you truly understand it. Since then, I have built my personal study habits and tutoring approach around this principle.
Over the past six years, I have tutored students across a variety of age groups and subjects, including:
Elementary Mathematics: Worked officially with 4th and 5th-grade students to build foundational math confidence.
College General Chemistry I: Assisted peers in navigating complex chemical concepts and formulas.
Introductory Calculus: Provided dedicated 1-on-1 tutoring support to help students master higher-level math.
Everyone receives and retains information differently. What works for one student might not click for another, which is why I tailor every session to the individual:
1. Active Explanation: I encourage students to explain concepts back to me (or to themselves). If you can teach it simply, you own the material.
2. Multiple Angles: When a concept isn't clicking, we don't just repeat the textbook. I find alternative resources, visual aids, or different explanations until we find the approach that aligns with your learning style.
3. Real-World Connections: I help students tie abstract formulas to relatable, everyday examples to make the material meaningful and easier to remember.
Every student has the potential to thrive academically. Sometimes it just takes a different approach, trial-and-error, and finding someone who can break down complex ideas into manageable steps. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
