Hello, my name is Mel! I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Middle East Studies. As someone who grew up in a multi-lingual household, I grew to love language learning and teaching others about the languages I spoke. I grew up speaking both Arabic and Farsi, and I have one year of tutoring experience in both languages. I believe that language learning happens best when you learn about the culture and daily lives of the people who speak the language, which is the central method to my tutoring method. Let's chat about the rich traditions and culture of the Middle East/SWANA in Arabic or Farsi!
Additionally, I have four years of teaching experience and two years of tutoring experience, including experience teaching Middle School and High School Algebra 1 and 2. As a Student Success Coach in City Year, I taught of over 200 students in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. In this role, I was able to level up a student from a Kindergarten to 3rd grade math level in the span of 5 months. I have a very inclusive and creative method of teaching and tutoring that is accessible to students who have learning and developmental disabilities, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. One of my favorite methods of teaching is by letting students draw and/or play games in order to learn. Students will be able to have fun in my class while also getting lots of work done!
I want to create an inclusive, accessible, and fun environment for all my students, whether they are an adult learning Arabic or a Middle Schooler learning algebra. At the same time, rest assured, we will get much learning done!
